I'm glad that we had that talk, about my secret love of kids. (Or at least kids on horses.) Now I feel I can be completely honest with you, and that means admitting that although I go to horse shows with the aim of selling parents on prints of their children riding horses, what I really love is taking pictures of just the horses.

I love their faces. I love their manes and tails and the various fancy and non-fancy variations thereof.

I've never been much for bling, but today I LOVE THE BLING, because it makes the photos so interesting.

I love the looks on their faces, and I love imagining what they're thinking. Are they just gliding along, performing by reflex while their minds are daydreaming away? Are they taking mental notes on their latest novel? Are they thinking wistfully of hay fields and sunshine, or are they concentrating on annihilating the competition?

Your photos are just wonderful - I love the way you capture the horses. Do you have an LJ account by any chance? I have a friend there who rides and she might like your blog/horse photos.

Thank you! I'm slowly trying to build an actual career with my art so it's really encouraging to have people like it! :D I am on LJ; this journal crossposts to redroanpony. Apparently "redroanchronicles" was too long for LJ. ;D

OMFG, I did! I actually did. They mostly didn't turn out well (too dark) but I think there was one decent on in there. Digging into my San Francisco photos is high on my to-do list for this week. I will get it to you, I SWEAR. And next time I'm down I think we should take herself out to a park or something and get some proper shots. I've always wanted to see Golden Gate Park... we should make a date. ;D

That pony was really just beautiful. He also had a very clearly inexperienced rider, and he bolted with her during the green horse class. When she finally came off it was back-first into a fencepost. :( The adult accompanying her rode the pony in a later class so I can only assume she's okay, but that kid was lucky not to break her back. :(

Hey, you want to come be the "official photographer" when we open my new arena??? The one who's fence is arriving Friday? (This is SO exciting). I -Think- it will be in late April or early May, I'm not scheduling it till the pad is done and the fence is up.

I'm building a 150 by 260 ft roping arena (don't look at me, I ride english). It should be large enough to do pretty much anything we need to. I have a perfect site for a semi-public arena. Right next to the paved road, has water and power available, drains perfectly, and has plenty of room for parking. It will be available by subscription to the community here. The Jr Rodeo folks are planning to use it, and eventually I hope to find a trainers from other disciplines to do weekly or monthly clinics.

I'll have a "Grand Opening" event with a playday. I won't decide when until we get the fence up and some footing on the way. Footing will be 4 inches of sand.
