You're not the only one. ;D I don't mean "cowboy" in a derogatory way, just that it's not at all traditional for western horsemen to wear a helmet. I'm a big believer in them, as I'd be dead now without them, so... I guess my feeling is that kids aren't necessarily informed enough to make the decision not to wear one. I know lots of parents who choose not to helmet their children (and lord knows it wasn't the norm when I was growing up and flying down stairs and off jumps on my Huffy bike :D), but I'm a worrywart and it freaks me out hardcore.
I do wonder sometimes if it's safer to wear no helmet at all than an ill-fitting helmet, though. Most people I've seen wearing helmets at these playdays have had helmets that either are very poorly adjusted, are worn completely incorrectly, or just plain don't fit them, and I always wondered if they got into a wreck, whether the helmet would just cause horrible damage to their spinal cords or something. Some of them, I'm sure, would just fail to stay on the person's head...
