...yeah, having had to literally beat a pit bull off a woman and her two dogs with a broom handle, once, I am...*sigh*...well, I've met some nice pits, but I have definitely had the Really Bad Pit Bull Experience. This was a few months after that woman was mauled to death in SF, and I had a very strong feeling of "Oh, not on my block, damn it," but I really had to beat the tar out of the dog before he would back down and she and her dogs could get away. I felt bad about it -- he was my neighbor's dog -- but there was really no alternative.
We managed to get him back in his run, finally, and called animal control to come get him to a vet, and then I had to explain it to the neighbors when they got home. Fortunately they were basically understanding. It was still a Very Very Bad Day all around.
