That's what I was attempting to do; you can see the lower left-hand corner and under the horse are darker, but not in a good way. :D What I was going to do was layer the colored pencil so it would darken up, and I wanted to make it look like of smoky/misty behind the horse. But instead it just looked like a muddied mess, and the colors I was going to use to darken it actually brightened it even further; the color was just more vivid, not necessarily darker. I stopped while I was ahead. :D What I'll probably do when I give a go at painting this is paint the background black and then go in with some lighter gray with a sponge and give the background some texture and depth, and keep it darker so the mane and stuff will contrast better. The dry mediums I used just weren't right for this piece, I think.
